Pullman Changbaishan Resort: closest to the gate
Accor describes the Pullman as sitting at the foot of the mountain, a few minutes' drive from the West Slope scenic-area distribution centre and around 20 minutes from Changbaishan Airport. It has about 300 rooms, including larger suites, which helps families who need connecting space. Choose it if your priority is being first in line on a clear morning. Summit visibility is often best early, before clouds build.
Changbaishan International Resort (Songjianghe)
This is the large, purpose-built resort originally developed by Wanda. It combines a major ski area with several international-brand hotels, such as The Westin Changbaishan Resort, and mid-range options, along with a shopping and dining street. It's the most practical base if you want to ski on some days and sightsee on others. In summer it works as a comfortable West Slope base, with the resort's shuttle and taxis connecting to the scenic area.
Good to know: the resort area covers a wide footprint. Before you book, check how far your specific hotel is from the ski lifts or the shuttle stop.
Club Med Changbaishan: the all-inclusive family choice
Club Med Changbaishan opened in 2022 inside the Changbaishan nature reserve area. It has around 107 rooms, a large indoor hot-spring zone, and ski slopes suitable for beginners and intermediates. Meals, ski lessons and a kids' club are bundled into the stay. It's best for families with young children who want a predictable, low-effort holiday rather than a sightseeing-heavy itinerary. Songjianghe town: budget and local stays
Songjianghe has simpler hotels and family-run guesthouses at lower prices than the resorts. It suits independent travellers and anyone arriving by conventional train at Songjianghe station. Arrange your scenic-area transfer in advance on busy dates, and don't rely on finding taxis early in the morning.
Finding a family room
- Search for family room, connecting rooms or suite rather than just "3 guests". Many Chinese hotels list family room types under names like 亲子房 (parent-child room) or 家庭房 (family room).
- Resort hotels are more likely than small town hotels to offer extra beds and cots. Confirm this in writing before you arrive.
- In ski season, ask whether ski-storage and boot-drying rooms are included. It makes a big difference with children.
How to choose in 30 seconds
- Tianchi is the main goal and you have 1–2 nights: Pullman area.
- Skiing, or a mixed ski and sightseeing trip: Changbaishan International Resort.
- Young children and you want everything included: Club Med Changbaishan.
- Tight budget: Songjianghe town, with a pre-booked morning transfer.
- Also visiting the North Slope: split your stay and spend 1–2 nights in Erdaobaihe.
