The summit approach requires a substantial staircase. Pace yourself, use handrails when needed and reconsider in poor weather or if knee mobility is limited.
Beyond Tianchi
Do not ignore other West Slope scenery such as canyon and seasonal alpine landscapes. These provide value when summit visibility is poor.

Songjianghe and nearby resort areas are the natural bases. They also pair more easily with Changbaishan Airport and winter resort trips.
How to combine with North Slope
Use separate days and consider moving hotels once. Repeated same-day commuting between the two sides wastes time.
Who should choose North instead
Travelers with mobility limitations, very young children, or a strong preference for multiple lower-elevation attractions may be happier on the North Slope.
