The 1,442 steps: what to expect
- The stairway is steady rather than technical, but you're above 2,000 m, so pace yourself and rest often.
- It's exposed to wind, and there's little shelter at the top. Bring a windproof layer and gloves, even in summer.
- Stay off the stairs in lightning, ice or very strong wind. Ask staff about conditions.
- Knees take a beating on the way down. Use the handrails, and bring walking poles if the rules allow them.

- Enter at the earliest slot and take the shuttle to the upper car park.
- Climb to Tianchi first while visibility is best.
- Shuttle down to the Jinjiang Grand Canyon boardwalk.
