- Rail line: Changbaishan Station sits on the Dunhua–Baihe high-speed railway, which opened on 24 December 2021.
- Station location: Erdaobaihe town, Antu County — the North Slope gateway town.
- Typical train time: about 2 h 20 min to 2 h 40 min on direct G/D trains.
- Airport: Changbaishan Airport (NBS) is near Songjianghe, about 17 km from the West Slope entrance.
- Tickets: China Railway 12306 is the official channel. Foreign passport holders can book on 12306 or through agencies such as Trip.com.

By high-speed train (recommended)
Since the Dunhua–Baihe line opened, rail has been the simplest way to reach Changbai Mountain from Changchun. Direct trains run from Changchun's main stations to Changbaishan Station (长白山站), usually stopping at places such as Jilin and Dunhua. Changbaishan Station is in Erdaobaihe, so you arrive right at the North Slope base.
How to book
- Search the route Changchun → Changbaishan on 12306 or a booking agency. Make sure the arrival station is 长白山 Changbaishan, not Baihe or Changbai County, which are different places.
- Book as early as sales open for July, August, weekends and the National Day holiday.
- Bring the same passport you booked with. It's your ticket at the gates.
From the station to your hotel
Erdaobaihe hotels are a short taxi ride from the station. For the North Slope, the scenic-area entrance and its shuttle system are also reached from Erdaobaihe. Going to the West Slope from the station is a long road transfer, so pair the train with an Erdaobaihe hotel rather than a West Slope resort.
By air: Changchun to Changbaishan Airport
Changbaishan Airport (IATA: NBS) is in the Songjianghe area of Fusong County on the western side of the mountain. It's the natural arrival point for the West Slope, the Changbaishan International Resort (formerly Wanda) and Club Med Changbaishan. The flight from Changchun is short, but services are limited and seasonal. Compare the total journey time against the train rather than assuming flying is faster.
By car or private transfer
Driving gives you the most freedom, especially if you plan to visit both the North and West slopes, or combine the mountain with Yanji. Expect most of a day on the road. Check your map app for current routes, because the last stretch uses mountain roads where winter ice and fog slow traffic. A pre-booked private transfer with a local driver works well for families with ski gear.
Beijing to Changbaishan
From Beijing, most travellers either:
- Fly to Changbaishan Airport (NBS). Direct flights of about 2 hours operate, mainly in peak summer and ski seasons. This is best for the West Slope and ski resorts.
- Take high-speed rail via Changchun or Shenyang, changing onto a train to Changbaishan Station. This is best for the North Slope. Check 12306 for through trains, which run in some seasons.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Booking to the wrong "Changbai". Changbai Korean Autonomous County (长白县) is a different place from Changbaishan Station (长白山站).
- Staying on the wrong side. A cheap Erdaobaihe room makes a West Slope day very long. Choose your slope first, then book the hotel.
- Tight connections. Mountain weather and holiday crowds cause delays. Leave a buffer before timed scenic-area entry.
